The Saint Paul Public Schools Transportation Department provides a number of driver awarness items including the Protect Our Children! brochure and it's companion Be Alert to Winter Conditions.   Information on obtaining these copyrighted items without charge may be obtained from Harold Turnquist or Mark Vogel at 696-9600.

The Protect Our Children! brochure explains the requirements of Minnesota Statute 169.444 which requires that all traffic stop for a school bus displaying red lights and extended stop arm.  The brochure outlines the situations in which a motorist does and does not have to stop for a stopped school bus.  It further explains that failure to stop for a school bus making an eight-light stop is a misdemeanor and that failure to stop for a school bus making an eight light stop with students boarding or leaving the school bus, in the street, or on the curb is a gross misdemeanor which is punishable by up to a $3,000 fine and/or a year in jail.  The Protect Our Children! brochure may be downloaded in Adobe Acrobat PDF format at the bottom of this page.

The Be Alert to Winter Conditions brochure outlines dangers inherent in winter driving around child pedestrians and highlights important actions that motorists can take to safely drive around school buses loading and unloading students and near school children walking to or from school or the school bus stops.  The Be Alert to Winter Conditions brochure may be downloaded in Adobe Acrobat PDF format at the bottom of this page.
