School Bus Driver and Special Education Bus Assistant Training SCHOOL BUS DRIVER INSERVICE TRAINING All school bus drivers transporting regular or special education students, and all special education school bus assistants, are required to attend mandatory inservice training provided by the Transportation Safety Department. Under the terms of the contracts for transportation service between Independent School District No. 625 and our school bus contractors, each driver of a school bus providing route, field trip, athletic trip, or Community Education service to the Saint Paul Public Schools must attend, or have attended within the previous three years, a pre-service or in-service orientation session conducted by the School District pertaining to the transportation policies and procedures of the Saint Paul Public Schools and to effective Student Management. Attendance of all drivers at these sessions is a mandatory condition of the transportation contract. Drivers of special education routes are required to be certified in American Red Cross Community First Aid and CPR. Initail training and refresher training is offered by the Transportation Safety Department. Article 17 Section 4 stipulates: SECTION 4. Premium Pay for School Bus Duty "Premium Pay for School Bus Duty" 4.1 Employees who meet the DistrictÃs capability and training requirements and are assigned to School Bus Duty, shall be paid a premium of $2.50 per hour above their regular hourly rate of pay for those hours actually engaged in school bus duty. Such time shall be accounted and tallied in quarter (1/4)-hour increments. To be eligible for premium pay a teaching assistant assigned to school bus duty must have attended a Policy and Procedure inservice training session and must have successfully completed an American Red Cross Community First Aid and CPR training. Refresher training occurs at time intervals specificed by the Transportation Safety Department.
