In Bus Video Cameras Each school bus on Saint Paul Public Schools route service is equipped with a Silent Witness video box that is capable of holding an 8mm video camera. Cameras are rotated through the fleet on a random basis and are assigned to routes experiencing discipline problems. Video tapes taken by in bus cameras are confidential student information under the provisions of Chapter 13 of Minnesota statutes and Section 34 of United States Code. Tapes may only be viewed by authorized School District and contractor staff, including Transportation Safety staff and the principal or assistant principal of the school the route was serving when the tape was made. Since cameras photograph all students in the school bus video tapes cannot be shown to parents because they would view students other than their own children. |
