| Facts About Saint Paul's Transpotation Services  The Saint Paul Public Schools operates 373 vehicles that provide
approximately 861 AM route trips transporting students to school. This
does not include some trips transporting out of District special
education placements, students experiencing homelessness, or students
for care and treatment.
Of the 861 route trips:
- 608 route trips transport students to school for integration purposes
- 60 route trips transport students to a neighborhood elementary school.
The vast majority of these route trips provide transportation to both
students from outside the attendance area for integration purposes and
attendance area students residing over one mile form school.
- 143 route trips transport K-12 students to a special education setting
- 25 route trips transport Early Childhood Special Education students
- 25 route trips transport students to a non-public school
The Annual School Bus Fleet Magazine Survey of the 100 largest school
district transportation operations for the 2008-2009 school year
indicates that Saint Paul operates with a high degree of efficiency:
- Saint Paul was No. 33 in the number of transported students, but is No.
59 in the number of buses used to transport those students.
- Saint
Paul averaged 103 students transported by each bus whereas the national
average was 68 students per bus. This was the 7th highest total number
of students transported by each bus of the 100 largest school districts
survey.
During the 2009-2010 school year the School District projects transporting 39,273 students to and from school, including:
- 24,580 students to and from District schools for integration purposes.
- 540 students to and from an East Metro Integration District school.
- 5 students to and from the Metropolitan Learning Alliance high school at the Mall of America.
- 6,648 public students due to distance
- 2,925 students for special education services
- 431 students to or from locations outside of Saint Paul due to homelessness and care and treatment
- 2,310 non-public students due to distance
- 594 public and nonpublic students due to traffic conditions
- 1,240 four year old program students

During Fiscal Year 09 the Transportation Department ordered 6,978 field, athletic, and community education trips, including 291 utilizing wheelchair lift buses and 124 utilizing motor coaches, at a cost of $1,461,926.
During the 2009-2009 school year Saint Paul provided transportation to 434 students experiencing homelessness from temporary or emergency shelter locations outside of the District back to their school or origin within Saint Paul. This is the highest total reported by a Minnesota school district and over 4 1/2 times greater than the second highest reporting district. The 434 students did not include students experiencing homelessness who were residing at a temporary or emergency shelter location within the District.
During the 2008-2009 school year students attending a Saint Paul Public School participated in 346 joint learning experiences with students from other East Metro Integration Districts partner districts.
